Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 20,207 people to British Columbia’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 67.4% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 12,476 people moved to British Columbia from other provinces in the third quarter of 2024, down 1.6% from a year earlier. A total of 15,054 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 11.6% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 2,578 people from British Columbia’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 40.9% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 22,785 people to British Columbia’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 65.7% from the same period in 2023.
