Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from inter-provincial migration, resulting in a net increase of a record 185,466 people to Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2023. This was an increase of 41.1% from the third quarter of 2022.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 20,345 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the third quarter of 2023, down 10.5% from a year earlier. A total of 26,297 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 18.2% from the same period in 2022. The result was a net loss of 5,952 people from Ontario’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 36.7% from the third quarter of 2022.

Changes in population from immigration

International immigration added a record 191,418 people to Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2023. This was an increase of 35.9% from the same period in 2022.
