St. Catharines-Niagara Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in St. Catharines - Niagara was 5.2% as of April 2022, down 1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.7% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 6,300 more full-time jobs in April 2022 compared to a month earlier. An unchanged number of part-time positions led to an increase of 6,300 total jobs in April.

Full-time employment has recovered since bottoming out in December 2021 and now stands at a record high.

The number of full-time jobs in April was up from the previous month in agriculture, construction, manufacturing, transportation & warehousing, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, business & building services, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.

Full-time job losses in April occurred in natural resources, utilities, trade services, education, healthcare, and public administration.
