Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive net international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 5,653 people to British Columbia’s population in the second quarter of 2026. This was a decrease of 60.5% from the net gain in the second quarter of 2025.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 21,732 people moved to British Columbia from other provinces in the second quarter of 2026, down 6.7% from a year earlier. A total of 18,976 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the second quarter, a decrease of 3.3% from the same period in 2025. The result was a net gain of 2,756 people to British Columbia’s population in the second quarter. This was a decrease of 24.9% from the net gain in the second quarter of 2025.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration added 2,897 people to British Columbia’s population in the second quarter of 2026. This was a decrease of 72.8% from the net gain from the same period in 2025.
