British Columbia Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in British Columbia was 6.4% as of August 2026, down 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.5% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 3,900 more full-time jobs in August 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 2,800 part-time positions, this led to an increase of 6,700 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was down 8,900 jobs from the peak in June 2025 but stood 36,700 jobs above the trough in May 2026.
