British Columbia Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in British Columbia was 6.3% as of January 2026, down 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.6% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.
There were 13,400 more full-time jobs in January 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 11,000 part-time positions, this led to an increase of 2,400 total jobs in January.
Full-time employment was down 17,100 jobs from the peak in June 2025 but stood 17,400 jobs above the trough in October 2025.
