Vancouver Island Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Nanaimo was 6% as of February 2025, down 1.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 13.1% below the peak from April 2011 and is below the long-run average.

There were 1,300 more full-time jobs in February 2025 compared to a month earlier. An unchanged number of part-time positions led to an increase of 1,300 total jobs in February.

Full-time employment was still down 9,200 jobs from the peak in April 2024 but stood 1,300 jobs above the trough in January 2025.
