Thunder Bay Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Thunder Bay was 4.7% as of August 2026, down 0.5% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.2% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 400 fewer full-time jobs in August 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with an unchanged number of part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 400 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was down 3,100 jobs from the peak in December 2025.
