Greater Sudbury Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury was 3.9% as of February 2023, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.8% below the peak from December 2009 and is below the long-run average.
There were 400 fewer full-time jobs in February 2023 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 1,500 part-time positions led to an increase of 1,100 total jobs in February.
Full-time employment was still down 4,100 jobs from the peak in April 2019 but stood 5,600 jobs above the trough in June 2020.
The number of full-time jobs in February was up from the previous month in utilities, trade services, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, education, information & cultural services, accommodation & food services, and public administration.
Full-time job losses in February occurred in agriculture, natural resources, construction, manufacturing, transportation & warehousing, business & building services, and healthcare.
