Greater Sudbury Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury was 4.4% as of December 2022, down 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6% below the peak from December 2009 and is below the long-run average.

There were 800 more full-time jobs in December 2022 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 500 part-time positions led to an increase of 1,300 total jobs in December.

Full-time employment was still down 3,500 jobs from the peak in April 2019 but stood 6,300 jobs above the trough in June 2020.

The number of full-time jobs in December was up from the previous month in utilities, construction, transportation & warehousing, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, business & building services, healthcare, information & cultural services, and public administration.

Full-time job losses in December occurred in agriculture, natural resources, manufacturing, trade services, education, and accommodation & food services.
