Greater Sudbury Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury was 8.4% as of March 2021, down 0.3% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 2% below the peak from December 2009 but remains above the long-run average.
There were 1,200 more full-time jobs in March 2021 compared to a month earlier. A loss of 600 part-time positions led to an increase of 600 total jobs in March.
Full-time employment was still down 6,900 jobs from the peak in April 2019 but stood 3,300 jobs above the recent trough in June 2020.
The number of full-time jobs in March was up from the previous month in natural resources, utilities, construction, manufacturing, transportation & warehousing, professional & scientific services, education, and public administration.
Full-time job losses in March occurred in agriculture, trade services, the financial sector, business & building services, healthcare, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.
