Changes in population from migration and immigration
Negative net international immigration overshadowed gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 24,358 people to British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 3,427 people from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 9,047 people moved to British Columbia from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 13.5% from a year earlier. A total of 7,820 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, a decrease of 9.4% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 1,227 people to British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a reversal from the net loss of 660 people from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration subtracted 25,585 people from British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 4,087 people from the same period in 2024.
