Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 85,067 people to Ontario’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 39.4% from the second quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 25,480 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the second quarter of 2024, down 5.8% from a year earlier. A total of 34,691 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the second quarter, a decrease of 6.8% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 9,211 people from Ontario’s population in the second quarter. This was a decrease of 9.3% from the second quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 94,278 people to Ontario’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 37.4% from the same period in 2023.
