Ontario Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Ontario was 5.6% as of December 2022, down 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.5% below the peak from July 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 35,800 more full-time jobs in December 2022 compared to a month earlier. An unchanged number of part-time positions led to an increase of 35,800 total jobs in December.
Full-time employment has recovered since bottoming out in September 2022 and now stands at a record high.
The number of full-time jobs in December was up from the previous month in professional & scientific services, healthcare, information & cultural services, accommodation & food services, and public administration.
Full-time job losses in December occurred in manufacturing, and business & building services.
