Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 9,470 people to Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 92.4% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 11,297 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2024, down 8.2% from a year earlier. A total of 13,416 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, a decrease of 12.2% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 2,119 people from Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 28.6% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 11,589 people to Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 90.9% from the same period in 2023.
