British Columbia Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in British Columbia was 5.8% as of September 2024, up 0.3% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 11,300 fewer full-time jobs in September 2024 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 400 part-time positions led to a decrease of 10,900 total jobs in September.
Full-time employment was still down 29,300 jobs from the peak in May 2024.
