Hamilton Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Hamilton was 5.6% as of February 2023, up 0.4% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.6% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 1,100 fewer full-time jobs in February 2023 compared to a month earlier. A loss of 3,600 part-time positions led to a decrease of 4,700 total jobs in February.

Full-time employment was still down 2,900 jobs from the peak in November 2022.

The number of full-time jobs in February was up from the previous month in agriculture, natural resources, construction, trade services, transportation & warehousing, business & building services, and information & cultural services.

Full-time job losses in February occurred in utilities, manufacturing, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, education, healthcare, accommodation & food services, and public administration.
