Changes in population from migration and immigration
Negative net international immigration added to losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 55,536 people to Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 25,092 people from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 11,967 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 5.8% from a year earlier. A total of 13,565 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, an increase of 1.3% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net loss of 1,598 people from Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 23.2% from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration subtracted 53,938 people from Ontario’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 27,174 people from the same period in 2024.
