The unemployment rate in Calgary was 5.8% as of October 2023, down 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 9.7% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 13,200 fewer full-time jobs in October 2023 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 8,500 part-time positions led to a decrease of 4,700 total jobs in October.
Full-time employment was still down 25,500 jobs from the peak in August 2023.
The number of full-time jobs in October was up from the previous month in utilities, trade services, transportation & warehousing, professional & scientific services, and accommodation & food services.
Full-time job losses in October occurred in agriculture, natural resources, construction, manufacturing, the financial sector, business & building services, education, healthcare, information & cultural services, and public administration.
