Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies was down in January 2022.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability fell compared to the previous month as the number of respondents who expected employment conditions to deteriorate rose.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting better conditions fell compared to the previous month, as the number of respondents expecting a deterioration in their household finances rose. Most respondents continue to expect their financial situation to stay the same.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a good time to make a major purchase fell while those who were pessimistic recorded an increase in January.
