Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 8,394 people to Manitoba’s population in the first quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 16.1% from the first quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 4,252 people moved to Manitoba from other provinces in the first quarter of 2024, up 6.7% from a year earlier. A total of 4,850 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, a decrease of 23.1% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 598 people from Manitoba’s population in the first quarter. This was a decrease of 74.3% from the first quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 8,992 people to Manitoba’s population in the first quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 27% from the same period in 2023.
