Changes in population from migration and immigration
Negative net international immigration added to losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 1,737 people to Manitoba’s population in the first quarter of 2026. This was a reversal from the net gain of 1,778 people in the first quarter of 2025.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 3,882 people moved to Manitoba from other provinces in the first quarter of 2026, down 2.8% from a year earlier. A total of 4,516 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, an increase of 3.1% from the same period in 2025. The result was a net loss of 634 people from Manitoba’s population in the first quarter. This was an increase of 63% from the net loss from the first quarter of 2025.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration subtracted 1,103 people from Manitoba’s population in the first quarter of 2026. This was a reversal from the net gain of 2,167 people from the same period in 2025.
