Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from inter-provincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 7,968 people to Manitoba’s population in the fourth quarter of 2023. This was a decrease of 1.9% from the fourth quarter of 2022.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 2,198 people moved to Manitoba from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2023, up 2.2% from a year earlier. A total of 3,479 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, a decrease of 19.4% from the same period in 2022. The result was a net loss of 1,281 people from Manitoba’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 40.9% from the fourth quarter of 2022.

Changes in population from immigration

International immigration added 9,249 people to Manitoba’s population in the fourth quarter of 2023. This was a decrease of 10.1% from the same period in 2022.
