Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies fell in June 2022.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability continued to trend higher compared to the previous month as the number of respondents who expressed optimism ticked lower.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability continued to fall as the number of respondents expecting a deterioration in their household finances recorded another increase. There is a widening gap between those respondents expressing worse conditions vs. those who are more optimistic.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who were uncertain as to whether it was a good time to make a major purchase fell again while the number of those who thought it was a bad time to do so grew in June.
