Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies continued to rise above pre-COVID levels in June 2021.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting job growth was up again compared to the previous month as the number of respondents who expected employment conditions to worsen continued to decline.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability moved lower in favour of an increase in the number of respondents expecting an improvement in their household finances.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a good time to make a major purchase recorded another decline in June.
