Ottawa Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Ottawa was 3.5% as of July 2022, down 0.4% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.5% below the peak from August 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 4,400 fewer full-time jobs in July 2022 compared to a month earlier. A loss of 400 part-time positions led to a decrease of 4,800 total jobs in July.

Full-time employment was still down 7,200 jobs from the peak in May 2022.

The number of full-time jobs in July was up from the previous month in agriculture, natural resources, trade services, transportation & warehousing, professional & scientific services, business & building services, education, accommodation & food services, and public administration.

Full-time job losses in July occurred in utilities, construction, manufacturing, the financial sector, healthcare, and information & cultural services.
