Ottawa Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Ottawa was 4.2% at the end of February 2020, holding steady at one of the lowest levels on record for the fifth month in a row.
The number of full-time jobs was down from the end of the previous month.
There were 11,400 fewer full-time jobs in February 2020 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 1,900 part-time positions led to a decrease of 9,500 total jobs in February.
Full-time job gains occurred mainly in construction and public administration.
These gains were offset by losses occurring mainly in agriculture, utilities, manufacturing, transportation & warehousing, the financial sector, prof., sci. & tech. services, business & building services, healthcare, and accommodation & food services.
