Toronto Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Toronto was 6.8% as of August 2026, unchanged from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 8.3% below the peak in July 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 5,000 more full-time jobs in August 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 900 part-time positions, this led to an increase of 5,900 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was down 4,600 jobs from the peak in January 2026 but stood 22,000 jobs above the trough in April 2026.
