Prairies Consumer Confidence
According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies moved higher in October 2024.
Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability remained at elevated levels in October. Those who expressed pessimism fell while those expressing optimism ticked higher.
Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability in their household finances remained elevated but ticked lower compared to the previous month while the number of respondents expecting conditions to deteriorate continued to slide lower. Those expecting improvement in conditions rose.
Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains near historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase ticked higher in October as the number of those who thought it was a good idea moved sideways, while those that were unsure fell.
