Ontario Employment Trends

 

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 7.5% as of January 2026, down 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.5% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 1,700 fewer full-time jobs in January 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 13,100 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 14,800 total jobs in January.

Full-time employment was down 1,700 jobs from the peak in December 2025.
