Ontario Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in Ontario edged down in April 2021.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing pessimism rose sharply while there was a large decrease in the number of respondents expressing optimism in job levels over the next six months.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability remained at near-record levels. There was an increase in the percentage of respondents expecting improvement and a corresponding decline in those expressing uncertainty in their household finances compared to the previous month.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase rose in April as the percentage of those who were uncertain ticked lower.
