Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 25,300 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 42.5% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 13,074 people moved to Alberta from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2024, down 20% from a year earlier. A total of 7,782 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, an increase of 0.2% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net gain of 5,292 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 38.4% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 20,008 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 43.6% from the same period in 2023.
