Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 38,054 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 31.9% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 22,732 people moved to Alberta from other provinces in the third quarter of 2024, down 17.2% from a year earlier. A total of 11,922 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 2.9% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net gain of 10,810 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 28.8% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 27,244 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 33.1% from the same period in 2023.
