British Columbia Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in British Columbia continued to move sideways in January 2025, albeit unevenly.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing pessimism over future employment conditions continued to move higher while those expecting conditions to improve remained at the lowest levels since 2012.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents who expected deterioration in their finances jumped while those who expected conditions to remain stable fell. Most respondents still expect their financial situation to remain relatively stable.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, is trending lower after recording strong gains in the third quarter of 2024. The number of respondents who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase rose in January while the number of those expressing uncertainty moved lower.
