Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 5,318 people to New Brunswick’s population in the first quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 15.9% from the first quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 4,671 people moved to New Brunswick from other provinces in the first quarter of 2024, down 14.3% from a year earlier. A total of 3,044 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, a decrease of 13.4% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net gain of 1,627 people to New Brunswick’s population in the first quarter. This was a decrease of 15.9% from the first quarter of 2023.

International immigration added 3,691 people to New Brunswick’s population in the first quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 15.8% from the same period in 2023.
