Ontario Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Ontario was 7.6% as of January 2025, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.4% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.
There were 19,000 more full-time jobs in January 2025 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 1,600 part-time positions led to an increase of 20,600 total jobs in January.
Full-time employment has recovered since reaching a bottom in December 2024 and now stands at a record high.
