Ontario Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in Ontario fell for a fifth month in a row in January 2022 after hitting a record high in August.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability continued its sharp rise upwards while there was a drop in those expecting more jobs.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability continued to trend near record levels but looks to be rolling over. There was an increase in the percentage of respondents expecting their household financial situation to worsen at the expense of those who expected better conditions.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The percentage of consumers who expected better conditions fell while those expressing pessimism rose.
