Ontario Employment Trends

 

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 7.8% as of August 2025, down 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.2% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 10,900 more full-time jobs in August 2025 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 13,400 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 2,500 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was still down 41,300 jobs from the peak in February 2025 but stood 22,600 jobs above the trough in June 2025.
