Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive net international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 5,849 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 86.2% from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 18,165 people moved to Alberta from other provinces in the third quarter of 2025, down 18.9% from a year earlier. A total of 12,513 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, an increase of 3.1% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 5,652 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 44.9% from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration added 197 people to Alberta’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 32,046 people from the same period in 2024.
