Alberta Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Alberta was 6.8% as of May 2024, up 0.3% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.8% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 12,100 fewer full-time jobs in May 2024 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 7,800 part-time positions led to a decrease of 4,300 total jobs in May.

Full-time employment was still down 12,100 jobs from the peak in April 2024.
