Ontario Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 12.4% at the end of June 2020, up 1.6% from the previous month to the highest level on record.

Full-time jobs were down from the end of the previous month.

There were 101,400 fewer full-time jobs in June 2020 compared to a month earlier. A loss of 23,900 part-time positions led to a decrease of 125,300 total jobs in June.

Full-time job gains occurred mainly in natural resources, utilities, and the financial sector.

These gains were offset by losses occurring mainly in construction, manufacturing, trade services, transportation & warehousing, prof., sci. & tech. services, business & building services, education, and accommodation & food services.
