Ontario Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 6.2% as of January 2024, unchanged from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.6% below the peak in June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 19,000 fewer full-time jobs in January 2024 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 15,200 part-time positions led to a decrease of 3,800 total jobs in January.

Full-time employment was still down 32,500 jobs from the peak in October 2023.
