Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 2,955 people to British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 91.7% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 7,970 people moved to British Columbia from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2024, up 0.6% from a year earlier. A total of 8,852 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, a decrease of 14.1% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 882 people from British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 63.1% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 3,837 people to British Columbia’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 89.9% from the same period in 2023.
