Changes in population from migration and immigration
Negative net international immigration overshadowed gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 15,739 people to British Columbia’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 24,817 people from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 13,547 people moved to British Columbia from other provinces in the third quarter of 2025, up 8.5% from a year earlier. A total of 12,043 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 17.9% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 1,504 people to British Columbia’s population in the third quarter. This was a reversal from the net loss of 2,176 people from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration subtracted 17,243 people from British Columbia’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 26,993 people from the same period in 2024.
