Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from inter-provincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 8,974 people to New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter of 2022. This was an increase of 60.6% from the third quarter of 2021.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 5,600 people moved to New Brunswick from other provinces in the third quarter of 2022. This was up 6.9% from a year earlier and was due almost entirely to a higher inflow of people from Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
A total of 4,090 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, an increase of 24.8% from the same period in 2021. More people left the province for British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador relative to the third quarter of 2021.
The result was a net gain of 1,510 people to New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 23% from the third quarter of 2021.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 7,464 people to New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter of 2022. This was an increase of 105.7% from the same period in 2021. and marked the first time net international immigration surpassed 6,000 people in any quarter.
