Peterborough Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Peterborough was 6.7% as of April 2021, down 2.7% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.3% below the peak from December 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 1,900 more full-time jobs in April 2021 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 900 part-time positions led to an increase of 2,800 total jobs in April.
Full-time employment was still down 2,700 jobs from the peak in January 2019 but stood 13,700 jobs above the recent trough in May 2020.
The number of full-time jobs in April was up from the previous month in agriculture, natural resources, construction, manufacturing, trade services, business & building services, healthcare, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.
Full-time job losses in April occurred in utilities, transportation & warehousing, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, education, and public administration.
