New Brunswick Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in New Brunswick was 7.3% as of May 2022, down 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 4.6% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 2,100 more full-time jobs in May 2022 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 200 part-time positions led to an increase of 2,300 total jobs in May.

Full-time employment has recovered since bottoming out in June 2020 and now stands at a record high.

The number of full-time jobs in May was up from the previous month in natural resources, construction, manufacturing, trade services, professional & scientific services, education, healthcare, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.

Full-time job losses in May occurred in agriculture, utilities, transportation & warehousing, the financial sector, business & building services, and public administration.
