Atlantic Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Atlantic region was little changed but remained at the lowest level in over a year in April 2022.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability moved higher in April compared to the previous month. There are still the same number of respondents expressing optimism regarding the future of the job market as there are expressing pessimism.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting deterioration continued to rise in April. There was another decline in the number of respondents expressing optimism in the outlook of their household finances.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who were uncertain as to whether it was a good time to make a major purchase or not fell in April, while the percentage of those who thought it was a bad time to do so continued to rise.
