Ontario Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in Ontario edged up in September 2024 but remained below-average levels.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing optimism over the outlook remained weak, while those expressing pessimism in future conditions moved up. Most respondents still expect conditions to remain stable.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting their household financial situation to improve ticked lower compared to the previous month as the number of those expressing uncertainty moved up. Most respondents expect conditions to remain constant.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels but has improved dramatically in recent months. The number of respondents indicating they feel uncertain about whether it is a good or bad time to make a major purchase continued trending higher in September as those who thought it was a bad time continued to fall.
