Ontario Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in Ontario ticked up on a monthly basis in February 2020.

Most consumers are expecting an overwhelming level of stability in the labour market over the next six months. The number of respondents expressing pessimism fell in February while the number of respondents expecting better employment conditions slightly ticked upwards.

The number of consumers who thought their budgets would be worse in the next six months dipped slightly in February, while the number of respondents expecting improvement ticked higher. Most Ontarians still expect their budgets to hold steady over the next six months.

The percentage of consumers who thought it was a good time to make a big-ticket purchase or were unsure rose in February as the number of respondents who expressed pessimism on this topic declined.
