Ontario Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Ontario was 5.4% as of April 2022, down 0.6% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.7% below the peak from July 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 35,400 more full-time jobs in April 2022 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 45,900 part-time positions led to an increase of 81,300 total jobs in April.
Full-time employment has recovered since bottoming out in June 2020 and now stands at a record high.
The number of full-time jobs in April was up from the previous month in construction, manufacturing, professional & scientific services, healthcare, and accommodation & food services.
Full-time job losses in April occurred in trade services, and education.
