Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo was 6.2% as of April 2021, down 0.8% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.4% below the peak from August 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 4,100 more full-time jobs in April 2021 compared to a month earlier. A loss of 1,100 part-time positions led to an increase of 3,000 total jobs in April.
Full-time employment was still down 4,800 jobs from the peak in March 2020 but stood 23,100 jobs above the recent trough in August 2020.
The number of full-time jobs in April was up from the previous month in utilities, manufacturing, the financial sector, business & building services, education, healthcare, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.
Full-time job losses in April occurred in agriculture, natural resources, construction, trade services, transportation & warehousing, professional & scientific services, and public administration.
