Prairies Consumer Confidence
According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies edged lower in April 2021.
Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing pessimism, stability, or optimism was little changed compared to the previous month.
Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability dropped. There was an accompanying increase in the number of respondents expecting worse conditions in their finances.
Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase recorded a gain in April as the percentage of those expressing optimism moved in the opposite direction.
