Residential
activity in Saint John recorded a decrease in the second quarter of
2010. With the market becoming more balanced, prices have topped out
from recent gains.
Home
sales numbered 535 units in the second quarter, down 13 per cent
from year-ago levels. The decrease was a result of declines in all
three months of the quarter, particularly the 26 per cent drop in
May.
The
market for single detached homes was more balanced compared to the
previous second quarter. As a result, buyers spent slightly more
time shopping than they had a year earlier.
The
median sale price for single detached homes was down three per cent
year-over-year to $164,900 in the second quarter of 2010, the third
highest level on record.
