Changes in population from migration and immigration:

Gains from international immigration and inter-provincial migration resulted in a net gain of 24,692 people to the province’s population in the third quarter of 2011. This was a 23 per cent decline compared to the third quarter of 2010.

 

The province gained 543 more people from the rest of Canada than it lost in the third quarter. This was a 74 per cent drop over the number of people gained in the third quarter of 2010.

 

International immigration added 24,129 people to the province’s population in the third quarter of 2011, down 20 per cent from the same period in 2010.

   
   

 

   
   

Changes in population from movement within Canada:

The third quarter of 2011 saw 23,946 people move to Ontario from elsewhere in Canada, edging down one per cent from the same period in 2010. More people moving from Quebec offset fewer coming from British Columbia and Alberta.

 

The number of people leaving for other provinces was 23,403 in the third quarter. This was up six per cent from the third quarter of 2010. The largest increase in out-migrants was to Alberta and Quebec.

 

The result was a net gain of 543 people through inter-provincial migration. This was a drop of 74 per cent from the gain in the third quarter of 2010. A large net loss to Alberta was a major contributor to this decline.

International immigration brought 24,149 people to the province in the third quarter of 2011. This was a 20 per cent decrease compared to the third quarter of 2010.
