Home sales activity in the Chilliwack region was
unchanged from levels recorded a year earlier in the fourth quarter
of 2011.
Residential sales in the fourth quarter numbered 409
units, up just one unit from the same period in
2010.
On an annual basis 2,025 residential properties traded
hands during 2011, a decrease of just one per cent from
2010.
The number of months of inventory was down for single
detached homes and apartment units but increased for townhouse and
row units. Buyers of single detached homes and apartment units spent
more time shopping than they had a year earlier, while buyers of
townhouse and row units decreased their shopping
time.
The median sale price for single detached homes was down
two per cent from year-ago levels to $320,000 in the fourth quarter
of 2011.
The median price for townhouse and row unit sales was
virtually unchanged from a year earlier at $235,500, while the
median sale price for apartment units moved down nine per cent from
a year earlier to $139,200 in the fourth
quarter.
